Akil Smith
Akil is a Flaherty (college) Scholar who graduated in 2022 from Archbishop Curley High School and is now attending the University of Miami. Akil is majoring in marine biology/ecology with a minor in psychology. He is currently on track to earn his Bachelor’s degree in four years.
Akil was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he serves as treasurer and community service chair on his local chapter’s executive board. He also recently landed an internship opportunity in Woods Hole, Massachusetts where he will be working under a mentor assisting with research on aquatic animal husbandry, estuary and wetlands conservation, and aquatic systems design.
Serving on the Board of Directors is Akil's way to reconnect with the foundation and provide a positive voice for his peers. Akil is excited to be able to give back to the Flaherty Family Foundation in this way and knows his voice can make a difference in the community.
